A MESSAGE FROM JOHN called MARK:

If you clicked on to this page from the home page, you're probably expecting to read a bunch of self-serving stuff about me, my life, my career, my successes and everything positive that you normally read about an artist to make you feel good about him/her so you'll think he/she is a wonderful, beautiful, interesting person and you'll be more likely to buy his/her stuff.  It's called promotion.  We all see and hear it every day and it works...most of the time.  As a matter of fact, that's the sort of biography I originally posted on this page...until I finally realized what a foolish thing I'd done.

Early on in my career I actually hired some people to "promote" my music and promote me individually as an artist.  I didn't like the idea of promoting me in order to promote the music, but all the "inside" music biz folks pretty much convinced me that you have to promote yourself if you want to "succeed" in this "business".  I wanted to "succeed" I guess, but back when I made my first album I defined "success" as placement on music and radio charts, sales of records and striving to attain awards and recognition. Over the years, my idea of "success" has changed dramatically.

Today, I finally realize that the success I craved is not dependent on charts, sales, awards or recognition by others.  The success I've found is simply in using the gifts and opportunies God gave me to make music for others to hear and share with others.

I've just finished my second album, and I have been blessed to be able to work with a great producer and some great musicians on both albums.  I wish I could describe the joy of making music with these guys--if you're interested you should check them out on the "Meet the Band" link on the www.johncalledmark.com home page...you can't tell from the photo, but they are some of the really greatest and most gifted people I've ever met.  Even with all their talents, awards and experience, what makes them truly great is the fact that they still love to make music...and more importantly...they know how to have fun doing it.

Music is so amazing.  Aside from the gift of life that God breathed into us, I think music is probably the coolest thing He ever created.  I am so blessed to have been able to write, sing and produce a couple of albums and share them with others.

So I guess that's all you need to know about me.  You can glean much of my history, stuggles and the amazing way God put His arms around my life, by listening to the songs I recorded.  If the music moves you, please share it with someone that needs to hear it.  That's what this whole music thing was created for in the first place.  Thanks for browsing and listening.
